Amphibian surveys

With the Fraser Valley Conservancy, I helped carry out wildlife surveys, checking frog traps and documenting amphibians found along roads near Chilliwack and Agassiz. These involved the threatened Western toads and the Oregon-spotted Frog as well as other local amphibian species. Assisting with projects such as these helped me become more familiar with various native and invasive amphibians, their egg masses, and life stages. With these experiences under my belt, I learned to properly capture, handle, and relocate amphibians.

Amphibian survey near Ryder Lake BC. Amphibians are identified for survey purposes. In the spring, the Western toads (pictured right) migrate across roads near the lake. The Fraser Valley Conservancy aids in their crossing by building wildlife tunnels and redirecting traffic to allow for safe passage.
