Western painted turtle recovery project

My love for reptiles and amphibians came full circle when I was brought on to volunteer with these two great organizations. I currently volunteer at the BC Conservation Foundation where I am apart of the Western Painted Turtle recovery program.

The native species is threatened by invasive species, pollution, and habitat destruction. I volunteer in the turtle lab where I conduct feedings and maintain tanks for eggs, babies, juveniles, and adults. When of a certain size and health standard, individuals are released back into the wild. You can read more about the project in the BC government's latest interim report!
